Virat Kohli turned presenter on Saturday in Jamaica as the India captain interviewed Jasprit Bumrah after the pacer's heroic spell on Day 2 of the 2nd Test between India and West Indies.
Jasprit Bumrah became only the 3rd Indian bowler after Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan to get a hat-trick in Tests when he ran through the West Indies top-order on Saturday. Bumrah sent back Darren Bravo, Shamarh Brooks and Roston Chase in successive deliveries in the 9th over of West Indies' innings to enter the record books.
It was fiery spell of fast bowling where Jasprit Bumrah showcased he can swing the ball both ways at will. After an out-swing masterclass in Antigua, Bumrah rattled the West Indies batsmen with out-swing in Jamaica on Saturday. Bumrah picked up 5 wickets inside his 6th over and finished with figures of 6/16 as West Indies were reeling at 87/7 at Stumnps on Day 2.
There was drama before Bumrah picked up the hat-trick as the India pacer did not even appeal strongly after trapping Roston Chase in front in his hat-trick ball. On-field umpire Paul Reiffel gave it not out but a timely DRS call from captain Virat Kohli helped overturn the decision.
To the naked eye, it seemed Roston Chase had hit the ball before it hit his front pad but replays showed daylight between bat and ball. Even as it flashed three reds, the India camp broke into celebrations.
In an interview for bcci.tv, Virat Kohli said he wanted to take a chance by going for the DRS call. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah owed his first-ever Test hat-trick to Kohli for using the review at the right time.
